D/FW VETERAN'S BUSINESS
ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
WHAT
is the program all about?
Momentum Texas Inc, with the help of an advisory
committee comprised of representatives from
the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the
SBA, the Texas Veterans Commission, the Texas
Veterans Leadership Group, the Center for New
Ventures and Entrepreneurship, Veterans of Foreign
Wars, the Texas Chapter of Elite Service Disabled
Veterans Owned Businesses, and other volunteers,
will develop and carryout an aggressive outreach
program to inform returning veterans of help
available to start a business.
WHO can participate
in the program?
Momentum Texas Inc (MTI) with a grant provided
by the Texas Workforce Commission is carrying
out a DFW Veterans Business Assistance Program
to help returning Afghan and Iraqi veterans
who wish to start a business.
HOW will the program
work?
Three Easy Steps:
• An MTI staff person will meet with the interested
veteran and mutually assess the readiness to
start a small business geared towards success.
• The assessment will include a self-analysis
questionnaire on readiness to become a small
business owner.
• Based on that assessment the veteran entrepreneur
will be provided the opportunity to attend one
of three free training programs valued at $200
to $400.
THREE Training Programs:
Small business participants seeking coaching,
will be provided space to display collateral
materials and meet one-on-one with established
small business owners who will act as coaches.
PROGRAM #1
The first training option developed by the Kauffman
Foundation and known as First Step/Fast Trac
will be focused on developing a viable business
concept. This program will consist of 10 weekly
3 hour training sessions.
PROGRAM #2
A second training option will be participation
in a 1 day 5 hour entrepreneurship boot camp
focused on management, money, and marketing.
The boot camp is designed to help new and emerging
businesses sustain themselves and grow.
PROGRAM #3
A third training option will be participation
in a 1 day 5 hour ResourceLink training program
focused on use of business assistance resources,
networking, and access to capital.
ELIGIBILITY
The DFW Veterans Business Assistance Program
will serve veterans residing in the entire Dallas
Fort Worth area. Activities will be conducted
out of two locations including the Bill J. Priest
Business Incubator near downtown Dallas, and
the Mountain View Community College Business
Incubation Center which is located near the
Loop 12-Walton Walker Illinois exit.
